1 Timothy 4:12: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Cannon Street continues to be blessed with the presence of many children and young people. They are an important part of our congregation and we thank God for them. Ages range from newborn to mid twenties and each week over 80 attend our Sunday activities. Although working with young people is always challenging it’s encouraging when we see the results as they grow and contribute to the life of the church. We believe children and young people need to be in a safe environment. All workers are checked and work to the guidelines set out in our Safe to Grow Policy. This ensures safety for children, young people and workers.
Sunday School – An already busy day gets busier when the young people arrive. From the creche to the youth section the workers have an hour to get through their lessons and activities. A variety of teaching styles are used to get the message across, including Bible teaching, crafts, quizzes, discussions, DVD’s and presentations by guest speakers. Youth Bible Study is on Thursday and runs before Youth Club a place to relax with friends and take part in various workshops and activities.
The Dads and Lads group supports the boys and young men in our church. The men take the boys on day trips or away for the weekend and act as mentors. Young people are also involved in other areas of the church such as praise & worship, playing instruments, sound engineering and dance. Some of the older teens help support the Sunday School and youth workers. They lead worship and occasionally take our Sunday services. Our Girls/Boys Brigade gives our younger children a great start in the life of our church. They have a social evening while learning some traditional Brigade values.
